The future of our environment is very important to Ronpak. Ronpak has made many changes to their manufacturing process and facilities to decrease the impact they have on the environment and to be an example for other manufacturing companies.
For many years now, we have believed that financial performance and environmental preservation can work together to drive responsible corporate growth. Our initiatives include:
Waste stream reduction: Many years ago we began an aggressive campaign to recycle our scrap. Currently, we recycle 95% of our waste materials rather than disposing of them in landfills.
Corrugated reduction: Part of our capital expansion program is the investment in automatic packaging equipment which allows us to replace heavy weight corrugated packaging with lighter weight kraft paper. This investment saves over 1,000 tons of corrugated packaging annually.
Use of recycled materials: Recycling programs are only truly effective when the market creates competitive uses for the resulting products of recycled materials. We have worked closely with our mills and our customers and have created a market for over 7,000 tons of recycled paper annually.
Energy consumption: We are investing in motion sensitive light fixtures, HVAC control management systems, and improved building insulation in order to save energy.
Inks: Historically, many of our inks contained VOC's (known cancer causing agents) as well as heavy metals (known to pollute our groundwater resources). Long before they were banned by the government, we eliminated them from our manufacturing processes.
Chemicals: Recently, certain papers were found to contain PFOA's, which have debatable effects on human beings. Like VOC's and heavy metals, we are moving quickly to eliminate them from our process.
